Vaping in the UK is legal for adults but tightly regulated. Here is what the law actually says — from the June 2025 disposable ban to nicotine limits, tank sizes and age restrictions.
The UK Disposable Vape Ban (June 2025)
From 1 June 2025, the sale and supply of single-use disposable vapes was banned across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The ban targets the environmental damage and youth uptake linked to throwaway vapes. Reusable vapes — including prefilled and refillable pod kits — remain legal and widely available. If you are switching, see our guide to the best disposable vape alternatives.
TPD Rules: Nicotine, Tanks and Bottles
Under the UK’s Tobacco and Related Products Regulations (the former EU Tobacco Products Directive, retained after Brexit):
- 20mg/ml maximum nicotine strength — the strongest e-liquid you can legally buy in the UK.
- 2ml maximum tank or pod capacity — larger tanks must be sold empty or as compliant kits.
- 10ml maximum bottle size for nicotine-containing e-liquid (larger “shortfill” bottles are sold nicotine-free).
- All products must be notified to the MHRA and carry compliant labelling, warnings and leaflets.
Age Restrictions
You must be 18 or over to buy vapes or e-liquid in the UK, and it is illegal to buy them on behalf of someone under 18. Reputable retailers — online and in-store — must verify your age. We operate a strict age verification policy on this site.
Where You Can and Can’t Vape
Vaping is not covered by the UK smoking ban, but individual venues and employers set their own rules — always check. Vaping is banned on most public transport and in many indoor public spaces by policy rather than by law.
